Fillings / Restorations

We are a mercury-free practice. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in a weaker tooth structure. Porcelain inlays and Tooth Colored Restorations (onlays) create fillings that are not only beautiful, but also add strength to weakened teeth. These restorations are esthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth -- usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) -- to prevent tooth decay. The sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.

Dentures

A denture, or a complete denture as it is often called, is an appliance that is inserted in the mouth, replaces natural teeth, and provides support for the cheeks and lips.

Bridges

All of your teeth play an important role in speaking, chewing, and maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss does not necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth, they must be replaced to maintain proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are several options for correcting tooth loss.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. A person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that their teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved.

Crowns

Our goal is to provide results that are undetectable. We replace existing crowns and fillings with restorations that look and feel like natural teeth.

Tooth Extractions

You and Dr. Poindexter may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed. Others may have advanced periodontal disease or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

Gum Disease Laser Therapy

Poindexter Dental utilizes the latest technology available for periodontal therapy: laser treatment. There are numerous advantages to using laser therapy as opposed to the traditional methods, which require a scalpel and sutures. Laser technology can be used to regenerate healthy gums and remove diseases areas in a virtually painless way. This method also encourages healthy gum to regenerate and attach to the teeth. There is a much lower chance of gum disease returning when laser therapy is used as opposed to traditional surgery.

Non-Surgical Root Canal

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures performed – well over 14 million every year. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of dental implants or bridges.

At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Comfort

We respect and understand that many patients experience dental anxiety. At our office, we do everything we can to make sure that your experience is as enjoyable as possible. By communicating clearly what you can expect during your treatment, we are often able to alleviate dental fear. We encourage you to bring headphones and music to listen to during your treatment and ask us about dental sedation options.

Cosmetics

Bonding

Bonding is an alternative to veneers, which is used as a restorative procedure for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or misarranged.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surface of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile, and they have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.

Inlays and Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are used when old fillings need to be removed or replaced. A dental inlay is similar to a filling and fits inside the cusp tips (top edges) of the tooth. A dental onlay is more extensive and extends over the cusps of the treated tooth.

Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening is quick and easy. You can choose to lighten only your upper teeth or both the upper and lower, depending on how much you show when you talk and smile.

CEREC®

CEREC is a method used  not only to replace these fillings, but also to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc. to its natural strength and beauty. Better yet, it's done with all-ceramic materials that are tooth colored in a single appointment!

Clear Braces

Clear braces are the invisible way to straighten your teeth, and provide an alternative to traditional braces. To discuss clear braces in the Houston, TX area please contact us to schedule an appointment.

Dental Health

Oral Hygiene

Adults over the age of 35 lose more teeth to gum/periodontal disease than to cavities. 75% of adults are affected at some point in their lifetime. The best way to prevent cavities and avoid periodontal disease is by practicing good oral care techniques on a daily basis.

Periodontal disease and decay are both caused by bacterial plaque. Plaque is a colorless film which sticks to your teeth at the gumline. Plaque constantly forms on your teeth. By thorough daily brushing and flossing you can remove these germs and help prevent periodontal disease.

Child Dentistry

The first dental visit should be just after your child’s third birthday. The first dental visit is usually short and involves very little treatment. We may ask you to sit in the dental chair and hold your child during the examination. You may also be asked to wait in the reception area during part of the visit so that a relationship can be built between your child and your dentist.

Prophylaxis (Teeth Cleaning)

Dental prophylaxis is a cleaning treatment performed to thoroughly clean the teeth and gums. Prophylaxis is an important dental treatment for prevention and stopping the progression of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Prophylaxis is an effective procedure in keeping the oral cavity in proper health and halting the progression of gum disease.

Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums which gradually destroys the support of the natural teeth. Dental plaque is the primary cause of gum disease in genetically susceptible individuals. Daily brushing and flossing helps prevent most periodontal conditions.
